The Big Draw

Churwell Primary in Morley participated in a whole school activity over a week where each class took turns to learn about drawing buildings. The school will be 50 years old in February and the Head wanted the children to really get their teeth into drawing. We used graphite sticks, huge pieces of paper, charcoal, oil pastel and a giant ruler to draw each classroom from the outside.

The younger year groups learnt about rectangles and texture as they did rubbings of the brickwork. As the year groups went up in age, more technical drawing skills were used. The children learnt about perspective and how things look smaller the further away they go. Also, how colour appears lighter in the distance. We used diagonal lines to create perspective on our giant paper pictures. These pictures were displayed on the walls of the hall for the children to see their amazing work.
