Remembrance Poppy Sculpture

In November 2019 I spent two days at Ninelands Primary school in Garforth leading a whole school project for their Remembrance Day Assembly.

The children wrote notes of thanks to those who died in the wars, the notes were then inserted into the centre of a giant wire Poppy. We also created a banner and used our wire skills to make a freestanding sculpture of wire poppies.

Each class had an hour to work around the three activities. I took their work home over the weekend and pulled it all together for their assembly on the Monday.

The children enjoyed making the poppies and talking about symbols and how we use them to give things meaning.
