'How to Get Creative' Workshop

Volunteer Action Leeds August 2023

I was approached by Volunteer Action Leeds in May 2023. They invited me to organise and facilitate some ‘How to Get Creative’ workshops in community centres in Leeds. These workshops were part of a larger selection of workshops hosted by VAL and were intended to support people who were worked in the community or were intending to start a group for themselves.

Participants were able to explore their own creativity and understand how it’s used as a tool for engagement. These workshops were open and fun where we all could play with materials and talk about ourselves and what we were doing in the community.

I think what really worked well and for me, by the end of the sessions I could really see how the people’s own creativity can be used within their own respective communities. Some people had never done anything artistic since they were at school and were working specifically with public engagement in their respective communities. It was good to help them ee how artistic materials can be used to create meaningful activities that support their community and their groups mission.
