Home School Success

I have had the pleasure of working along side a lovely mum who home schools her two children. They came for a throwing session in my mobile studio. (When its parked up I put my wheel in it and do private throwing session or private art sessions). The family arrived and all went through two throwing sessions, one to make a cylinder (this could be used as a beaker) and one to make a bowl. The littlest girl didn’t want to have a go on the wheel but hand built a fox and a large handled pot inscribed with her favourite animated character. I thought there was a chance it would blow in the kiln but it didn’t. I believe in a long drying time and slow bisque fire and it has proven faithful.

The thing I found particularly touching was that the girls could experience making their own stoneware which had a function. This is a good thing for children to learn in a culture of mass produced objects.
