Art Stall For All

I purchased an old stall from local community group - Garforth Community Feastival. These stalls were being used for their yearly Food Festival on Garforth Main Street. They were selling them off and I thought they would make a great community arts stall. Lockdown and Covid 19 permitted me time to restore the stall, I painted it and replaced the wood and tarpaulin so it looked nicer.

Then came the task of getting artists to want to use it… luckily this hasn’t been an issue as people are keen to try and have a go. The stall costs £10 to hire and this covers insurance and upkeep. The owners of Refill and Go very kindly permitted us to use outside their shop for the stall.

The stall’s purpose is to help local artists and makers sell their work, connect with community and build confidence. The digital age has been fantastic at sharing information. Many artists use social media to communicate about their work. The stall is a physical place where artists can connect with people in a in a physical space. It also helps them reach a demograph of people within society who don’t use digital media. The stalls purpose is to support a creative network and inspire community members to be involved with the arts.

The first stall was paid for by an anonymous donor who wanted to support a local artist sell their work. This was a truly kind gesture and was much appreciated by the stall holder. Clare from Eat, Sleep, Art Repeat had a successful day selling her prints. (Instagram / Facebook - @EatSleepArtRepeat)
