Churwell Library Mural No. 2

Libraries are great places for murals.

I was asked by the KS1 leader at Churwell Primary to spruce up their library. Last year I did the KS2 library and it had made a positive difference. The difference was that the KS2 library was funded through a Trust refurbishment and the KS1 mural was funded by the school.

The KS1 library is a wide corridor leading to the playground and although the leader had purchased new furniture, it needed something to make it a special place where imaginations could grow.

I’m a sculptor not an illustrator, but they needed help within a tight time frame, and I need an income, so I painted the mural…It was not an easy job. There wasn’t the resources to paint the whole area so I tried to adapt the space. There was a window, a radiator and plug sockets to incorporate into the work.

I tried to keep it simple in its composition and spent time painting the little creatures. I tried to make the existing yellow wall look like it was dusk in a woodland. I then attached fairy lights up so the whole thing twinkled. I hope the children liked it.
